I work at a Chevy dealership and have to deal with these damn emoticons (they send us fucking cardboard ones that the ladies of the dealership ADORE and stick them EVERYWHERE) and these awful cars all day long. Between this, Malibu, and the new 1500 front ends I’m about ready to choke a Chevy designer and drag him over to Buick or Cadillac to learn how cars should be made. At least the new Volt is tolerable.

I hate that whole fucking series of “public opinions of totally not actors” ads that Chevy is doing. For some reason I just find them unbelievably enraging. Perhaps it’s the smugness of the host, or the seeming cluelessness of the people who say, “oh yeah, this Malibu is nicer than my Lexus/BMW/Audi/Mercedes” (Maybe if you’ve got an old BMW or a CLA-Class). They just rub me the wrong way.

And don’t even get me started on the condescending “Built Ford Tough, pal, kapish?” series of ads

Kudos , I’m a Chevy guy too. I’m a career parts guy and would likely have the buyer of that car be someone who thinks its a factory install. I can see it now when the guy comes in and wants us to get him parts for his 3.8 Cavalier. I would pro-rate a parts price increase for all the research I’d be up against. Wouldn’t be my first swap idiot and I don’t work for free.

A-body swap was good too. Had a friend with Pontiac 6000 that did the swap. He transplanted the L67 engine from a Bonneville.

I don’t mind the Cruze. It’s not a great design, but there’s nothing wrong. It’s clean, inoffensive and good looking. Compared to the old model is more of an issue, but even there it’s not too bad considering what Chevy did to it with the facelift. Cruze’s styling ranked: Old Cruze >New Cruze>New Old Cruze.

The Malibu is actually damn handsome, but it falls down when you look at the badge placement. It screws up an otherwise amazing piece of design. Behold: 30 second paint shoop and it looks better.

The 1500, well... Depends. I see some and I love them, and I see others and want to strangle whoever designed that face. I think I’ve got it figured though.

Spot the difference? One has the LED strip lower light that clashes with the lines of the upper light. The other has the amber lower light the doesn’t wrap all the way around, but instead ends in a reflector.

My problem with the Cruze is they ruined rear visibility, it’s far too busy, the grille is a ‘beak’ that looks awful, quality dropped significantly versus the old model, and the rear end is an absolute disaster depending on trim level.

The Malibu headlights need some work, the badge placement is awful, it looks FAR too small, I’m sad they departed from the more-or-less three-box design they had and went to the same pseudo-hatchback bullshit the Chrysler 200 does, and the side of the body has some very confused conflicting character lines (that one drooping towards the rear wheel is completely at odds with the strong upwards line coming up from the side skirt, and the straight strong character line near the rear door handle).

My problem with the Silverado wasn’t what you mentioned, but rather that godawful bulging hood. A simple, cheap, flat piece of metal would have been 1000% better.

Didn’t know about rear vis, but then I’ve never driven one. The beak is still WAY less than Honda or Acura proportions, so I’m OK with it, but the rear is a letdown considering the outgoing model has such a nice ass end.

I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree on the ‘bu. If I’d never seen it in person I’d probably agree, but personally I think it looks stunning in the flesh IF_IT_WEREN’T_FOR_THAT_DAMN_BADGE. Come on GM!!

I never even noticed that on the Silverado. Now I can’t unsee it. Not a huge turnoff for me though, the headlights are much worse. Just think of it as extra room for a supercharger :)

I acutally spoke with an actor about those. those guys are volunteers who did it to be exposed and who want an acting career. but because they are volunteers and not actually paid, they arent actors (just volunteers) so they can get away with ‘not actors’ in the ad.
